Apple opinion needed!

I currently have a Macbook pro 15” with retina display. I got this computer over a macbook air for school, and I chose it over an air because I intended to use it to edit HD video as a film major. But as of two weeks ago, I am no longer a film student. I have a Mac desktop back in my home town waiting for me if/when I want it. Do you guys think it’d be a good idea to sell my Macbook, and use my desktop, and maybe buy an Ipad with the extra money so I can actually take it to school with out breaking my back—something I cannot currently do—to take notes and browse?
Also, my Macbook pro is in excellent condition. How much should I sell it for?
